1858 volume with short splits to leather at ends of upper joint. 1859 volume with 3"split to leather at tail of lower joint. Joints otherwise very good and strong. Hinges intact. The 1861 volume has chips to the spine lettering piece. The 1864 volume is missing the lower 2"of cloth from the lower margin of the rear board. Plates generally very good. Some foxing, occasionally heavy in the margins. Some volumes with dampstains and tidemarks to corners of plates at beginning and end of volumes. Some rubbing and small losses to leather at ends of spine and at corners of boards. No signatures. ; 10 bound volumes for the years 1858 through 1867 inclusive. The 20th (misnumbered"21st") through 29th annual volumes. (New Series, Volumes 4-7; [Another] New Series, Volumes 1-6). With 335 of 337 steel-engraved plates (lacking two). [NB: The list of illustrations in 1867 volumes lists 29 illustrations, but as 2 of these are within the pagination rather than on separate plate leaves, they have not been included in the counting of the plates. The two missing plates are: (1) 1858 volume,"The Last Stream"facing page 24. (2) 1861 volume,"Ecce Homo!"facing page 312. Both missing plates show signs having been removed, with a stub remaining.] The 1862 volume also has bound in"The Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue of the International Exhibition 1862"(xii, 324 pages). The 1867 volume also has bound in part only of"The Art Journal Catalogue of the Paris Universal Exhibition 1867"(216 [of 331] pages). Very solid 19th C. half calf bindings with cloth boards. Red leather lettering pieces on spines. Spines with 5 raised gilt bands. Page dimensions: 324 x 240mm. Marbled page edges. Binder's ticket on rear endpapers:"Bound by Blackie and Son".
